Happy Birthday, Chiropractic!
Every September 18, chiropractors around the world have a pretty good reason to celebrate.
Why?
Because September 18, 1895 marks the date traditionally recognized as the beginning of chiropractic, when D.D. Palmer performed what became known as the profession’s first chiropractic adjustment.
More than 130 years later, chiropractic has grown into a regulated healthcare profession helping people with spine, muscle, joint, and nervous-system-related concerns.
And here in Rossland and Trail, we’re proud to be part of that story.
It started with an idea
D.D. Palmer’s early work sparked a new approach to understanding the relationship between the spine, movement, and the nervous system.
His son, B.J. Palmer, went on to play a major role in developing and promoting the profession.
Over the decades, countless chiropractors contributed to the techniques, research, education, and clinical approaches that continue to shape chiropractic today.
It’s a history built by many people — and it continues to evolve.
More than an adjustment
One of the things that makes chiropractic interesting is that it has always involved more than simply the technique itself.
At its heart is an appreciation for how remarkably adaptable the human body is.
Your body is constantly responding to movement, physical demands, stress, recovery, and the environment around you.
Chiropractic care focuses on one important part of that picture: helping the spine and musculoskeletal system move and function well.
Why that matters in Rossland and Trail
Our community puts a lot of demands on the body.
Skiing at RED Mountain.
Mountain biking local trails.
Hiking, climbing, paddling, working, lifting, gardening — and everything else that comes with an active West Kootenay lifestyle.
When your body moves well, you don’t have to think about every joint, every turn, or every step.
You can simply get out there and enjoy what you love doing.
Standing on the shoulders of others
Every chiropractor practicing today benefits from the work of those who came before us.
The profession has changed considerably since 1895, and it will continue to change as research, education, and clinical practice evolve.
That’s something worth celebrating.
Not because chiropractic has all the answers — no profession does — but because there’s always more to learn.
The best birthday gift
So what’s the best birthday gift you can give chiropractic?
Keep moving.
Take care of your body.
Ask questions.
Learn about your health.
And if chiropractic has been helpful to you, share your experience with someone who might benefit from learning more about it.
Happy Birthday, Chiropractic!
From that first adjustment in 1895 to the modern chiropractic profession today, it’s been quite a journey.
And we’re grateful to be part of it.
Especially here in Rossland and Trail, where staying active isn’t just something people talk about — it’s part of how we live.
Here’s to another year of helping people move, work, play, and enjoy the things they love.
Happy Birthday, Chiropractic!
